Occasionally we are asked about the value of older etchings and out of print editions for insurance purposes. A conservative estimate would be to price them the same as current etchings of the same size. However, we have heard of people paying at least twice as much as these estimates for etchings that are sold out. The price of our etchings is generally determined by the size of the copper plate. The following is a list of the most common plate sizes* we have used. Prices listed are for current etchings of those sizes. This is for the artwork only. * The copper plates are beveled slightly to prevent the sharp edges from cutting the felt blankets during printing. This may reduce the size of the plate by 1/8th to 1/4 inch. In addition, the wet etching paper may shrink slightly when drying. Therefore the acutal print sizes may vary and be a quarter of an inch smaller than the original copper plate. |
